Joanne is a multi-genre vocalist whose love of music grew when hired for her first wedding ceremony at the early age of eleven. Years later, she still loves this special work. She studied classical singing with the Wexford School of Music, Waterford Institute of Technology, Deirdre Masterson & Imelda Drumm amongst others and later her musical theatre singing was strongly influenced by Linda Hutchinson of the British Voice Association, Ross Campbell (RAM), West End Masterclass and investigation of the Estill Vocal Technique.
In addition to performing at church services Joanne is a regular concert soloist & guest artist. In the past she has been vocal coach & choir director at the Wexford School of Music, The Wexford School of Ballet & Performing Arts, Anne Marie Cooney Stage School & Fresh Arts Stage School, London. She has performed in The National Concert Hall, University Concert Hall Limerick, The National Opera House & on the Late Late Show. She has also performed in the Actor’s Church; Covent Garden & had two successful concert series in the USA in addition to solo concerts at home.
Joanne, a former member of the prestigious Irish Youth Choir, has been a member and soloist of many choirs .She now channels her love of choral music as Musical Director of Enniscorthy Gospel Choir. Joanne has won many vocal competitions including Lieder, National Airs, Artistic Interpretation, Vocal Repertoire and Voice of the Feis. She played the lead soprano role, Harvest Home, in youth opera “Peace” in conjunction with Opera Ireland and Summer Music on the Shannon, working with composer Carl Davis CBE and Canadian conductor Bruce Dunn. Other honours include opening a concert to commemorate Waterford born opera composer William Vincent Wallace and performing in the Thomas Moore Festival in Dublin.
She previously performed with Lyric Opera for productions of Carmen & La Traviata under conductor Fergus Sheil. Her Celtic concerts in Georgia, USA were a more recent highlight, accompanied by composer Dr. Eric Sweeney & guest Dr. Jimmy O’Brien Moran where she sang one of Dr. Sweeney’s compositions. In 2012 she recorded an album of Irish songs ‘Send me a Song’ to mark her first performance stateside and previously recorded music for other projects including primary school music programmes.
Musical theatre roles include title roles in The Merry Widow (GMS) & Evita (SMTMS), Mabel Stanley; Pirates of Penzance (KMS), Sarah Browne; Guys & Dolls (NRMS), Grace Farrell; Annie (OLTG), Marian Paroo; The Music Man (EMS), Julie Jordan; Carousel (WMS), Jan; Grease (EMS) & Alice Beineke; The Addams Family (SMTMS) as well as several characters in Hits Concerts & Excerpts shows, most notably Donna in Mamma Mia & Elphaba in Wicked.
Joanne also runs her own vocal & performance school ‘Colla Voce’; delivering private classes in Wexford & workshops nationwide and is a tutor for Mobile Music School in the South East. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies, a certificate in Teaching Self Confidence & is passionate about the social, mental & intellectual benefits of music for all.
